Paediatrics
This was an interesting day which began with a plan to travel to Dover to provide a session on paediatric presentations. Unfortunately due to sick leave, there weren’t enough nurses to staff the centre let alone attend education. With a quick phone call to the DON of Oatlands and some creative shuffling of papers, Karen set off north-bound. Coincidentally, Alex and Cam from ACEM were visiting Tasmania that week to see what we were getting up to on the island. After reassuring them that ‘we’ll be fine’, despite the flood warnings for the north of the state, they set off to take some photographs and enjoy the scenery of the Midlands before joining Karen at the Midlands Multipurpose Health Centre (MMPHC).
After a crazy start to the day the session was a success, with a lot of enthusiastic participation from the nursing staff and students who were working at the MMPHC that day. The scenarios were low fidelity but provided the perfect setting for interesting discussion and learning across the board.
