Trauma Management
This session, facilitated by Karen, was an introduction to trauma presentations and management designed to be repeated on the next visit with a view to have a whole session of trauma scenarios for the staff to participate in. On this particular day we had a discussion on burns presentations and treatment, hypovolaemia – management of external blood loss and recognition and management of internal bleeding, as well as spinal injuries. The group discussed the correct handling of spinal patients and practiced conducting a log roll, application of cervical hard collar and potential complications of ill-fitting or prolonged use of hard collars. The staff were very engaged and excited for the next session on trauma management.
