Jen Macqueen
This session was well attended by a combination of nursing and medical staff from Bicheno, Swansea and Triabunna.
Facilitated by myself and Jacinta Stewart (our new EMET Project Support Officer).
Our topic this week was Advanced Life Support. The session kicked off with some group work activities, highlighting the importance of the recognition of the peri-arrest patient. We discussed the causes of cardiorespiratory arrest and introduced the concept of the ‘chain of survival’. This led us nicely into revising the ALS algorithm before practising our BLS and ALS skills (including safe defibrillation) and using the I Sim. The session concluded with a simulation exercise which incorporated the components already discussed and practised (recognition of the peri-arrest patient, safe defibrillation and post resuscitation care).
